Dr. Andrew Muhammad is a Professor and Blasingame Chair of Excellence in Agricultural Policy in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He brings considerable experience to the Blasingame Chair position, assisting decision makers in the evaluation of opportunities, policies, and programs related to international trade. Dr. Muhammad previously served as the Associate Director at the Economic Research Service (ERS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he managed research, outreach, and data-related activities on international trade issues. Dr. Muhammad has authored 90 refereed journal articles and more than 70 reports and other publications. He has also served as investigator on funded research totaling over $6 million, including funding from the Gates Foundation, National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and National Science Foundation. His research focuses on agricultural trade, trade policy, and global food demand. He serves on several national advisory boards, including the Agricultural Policy Advisory Committee (APAC), which provides trade counsel to the Secretary of Agriculture. Dr. Muhammad earned his Ph.D. in Food and Resource Economics from the University of Florida in 2000.
